How to Build a Strong Business Culture if the Office is Optional?
(5 minutes of reading time) With the COVID 19 pandemic, companies were forced to adopt the home office and/or hybrid work model. With the removal of employees from the physical space of the company, the biggest challenge is now how to keep the organizational culture strong during this remote work. There is no doubt that a company with a well-defined organizational culture helps to motivate employees, improve productivity, reduce absenteeism, and reduce employee turnover. For this reason, it is important to have well-defined values, mission, vision, and company objectives. After all, when you have a well-structured and implemented organizational culture, actions are naturally shared and executed by each employee. In today's text we will talk about how to maintain this organizational culture even when at home office. ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE The organizational culture of a company, also known as business or corporate culture, it is a set of values, beliefs, behaviors, ideals, and ideas existing in a company. It comprises practices, symbols, habits, behaviors, ethical and moral values, as well as principles, beliefs, ceremonies, internal and external policies, systems, jargon, and organizational climate. Culture influences all members of that organization as guidelines and assumptions to guide their behaviors and mindsets. It can be very well defined, based on the company's mission, vision, and values, or even be something more implicit that is part of the employees' routine, such as employees dress code, ways of doing a certain task, team spirit, voice tone on communications, in short, everything that is transmitted, experienced, and reinforced to all employees. Contrary to popular belief, organizational culture is not only related to the internal sphere. It also influences the way we deal with customers, investors, and suppliers. That is why it is so important to define and maintain a solid organizational culture, so that everyone shares the same company values, a single point of view that everyone understands and believes, what they do and what they preach, from the intern to the CEO. It is essential to understand that there are expectations from the company to the employee and vice versa. Both of them need to walk together so that there are no disagreements on either side. HOW TO MAINTAIN THE COMPANY CULTURE IN THE HOME OFFICE In this era of home office, the manager has a very important role, which is to focus on communication with his team, because productivity, satisfaction, motivation and commitment must be guided by following the values of the business culture. It is the manager who will transmit the company's culture, bringing his team closer and nurturing the feeling of belonging. In this way, the team should work as engaged and motivated as possible. Communication helps to spread and sustain the corporate culture. The manager must relate to his team and help to solve challenges, from work tools to the mental health of employees. They need to guide the work that needs to be done, ensuring that actions take place quickly. There is a lot that can be done to keep employees close by, even when working from home, such as investing in training, support materials and employee development, as it makes people always up to date and close to the company's culture. Here are some commonsense attitudes that will help maintain the corporate culture: 1. Keep in constant contact with your team to align activities, goals, provide feedback, etc. Thus, employees will feel supported and aware that they can count on the manager whenever necessary. 2. Strong internal communication, allowing your teams to be aware of the company's main decisions, keeping internal communication active through emails, chats, meetings and other digital channels. 3. Feedback, as it helps the employee to feel valuable. 4. Reinforce the strengths of your culture so that your team becomes more and more engaged. 5. Use technology to your advantage to facilitate communication, organization, and management of the work routine, as this gives employees greater security. 6. Improve the connection with your employees and ensure that they have the means and tools to establish a solid connection with the rest of the team. 7. Remotely or in person, recognition is always a motivating factor. Demonstrate that the company cares about the employee is essential. 8. Run employee satisfaction surveys on a regular basis so that managers can understand areas for improvement and provide the necessary support to employees. The pandemic has brought companies a multitude of new challenges and keeping the organizational culture alive is one of them. How to maintain the culture with your employees at home office? The truth is that this is possible, more than that, it is extremely important, because it is this identity that brings security and motivation to employees. It is worth insisting that your managers connect more and more with their team and don't forget to reinforce the company's culture on a daily basis. Do you like our content?
